Know the windows.
Plan the work before them.
These dates do different jobs. A typical window helps you plan; only the applicable official call sets your deadline.
16 October 2026
First international application round opens for autumn 2027.
15 January 2027
Application and ranking deadline for the first autumn 2027 round.
1 February 2027
Published supporting-document and application-fee deadline for that round; read the individual evidence instructions.
Scholarship application stage
SI and institutional scholarship schedules are separate. Check the relevant 2027 call rather than copying earlier dates.

More than one way
to fund your studies.
SI Scholarship for Global Professionals
A competitive scheme for eligible nationalities and master’s programmes with leadership and experience-related selection requirements.
Your next action: Check the current country, programme and evidence rules; complete the degree admission process and the separate scholarship application.
Check the official source ↗Lund University Global Scholarship
Merit-based tuition support subject to the university’s rules; living expenses require separate consideration.
Your next action: Read the course and applicant eligibility, ranking requirements and scholarship instructions.
Check the official source ↗KTH and other university scholarships
Institutional awards may support tuition but do not automatically include living costs.
Your next action: Check first-choice or ranking conditions where applicable and submit the required scholarship material.
Check the official source ↗Doctoral research positions
Doctoral recruitment can provide salaried research training under the university’s employment and admission terms.
Your next action: Apply to an advertised position through the institution rather than the general master’s scholarship process.

The budget.
The documents. The details.
Fee status
Check whether tuition and application fees apply to your citizenship or exemption category and provide evidence where required.
Living support
A full tuition award can still leave your living costs unfunded. Compare the award letter with your complete budget.
Residence evidence
Use the Migration Agency’s current maintenance, insurance and other requirements; current study and work conditions must be checked separately.
Your starting document checklist
Use this to organise the file; the provider’s current requirements determine the final list.
- Passport or citizenship evidence and any fee-exemption documentation.
- Complete degree and transcript records, with country-specific submission instructions followed.
- Accepted English evidence and subject prerequisites.
- Programme-specific CV, statement, portfolio or references where requested.
- SI or university scholarship forms and requested leadership or experience evidence.
- For a doctorate: vacancy-specific research, qualification and reference documents.
- Formal admission, required tuition-payment or scholarship evidence and current residence documents.

One clear step
at a time.
Use the checklist to keep your own place. These are preparation milestones, not a substitute for official approval.
Build a ranked programme shortlist
Choose degree programmes based on curriculum, subject prerequisites and the outcomes you want. Compare the actual course pages and record any programme-specific documentation beyond the central application requirements.
Think carefully about the order of your choices. Scholarship rules may also refer to ranking or first-choice status, so check the interaction before finalising. For a doctorate, build a separate research-vacancy tracker; salaried doctoral recruitment is not simply another choice within the taught master’s admission list.

Check general and programme-specific eligibility
Read the central country instructions alongside each programme’s subject and language requirements. Identify how your degree documents must be submitted and whether final-year or provisional evidence is accepted for your case.
Do not treat a language waiver or grade conversion accepted elsewhere as automatically valid in Sweden. Check any required credit descriptions, portfolios or statements with the receiving university. Keep a list of missing evidence and resolve ambiguous qualification questions before the central document deadline.

Use the correct international calendar
For autumn 2027, organise your work around the published first-round application and document dates shown above. The application deadline and the fee or supporting-document deadline are distinct; completing one does not remove the other.
Plan to submit before the last day and confirm how each document must be delivered. Do not assume the later admission round is an equally practical route for someone who needs residence permission. Add the university’s offer and enrolment instructions to your calendar as soon as they become available.

Match nationality and programme to scholarship eligibility
Check the Swedish Institute’s current list of eligible countries and programmes and the required evidence before preparing scholarship responses. University awards have their own conditions, which may differ from SI and from one another.
Record whether the award pays tuition, living costs or both and whether ranking affects consideration. A degree application does not automatically submit every scholarship form. Make a funding plan for each shortlisted programme and include a realistic alternative when your preferred route is highly competitive.

Prepare consistent academic and scholarship material
Use accurate records of your education, experience and achievements across all forms. Tailor any statement to the programme or scholarship criteria and explain your preparation with concrete examples. Do not add unsupported leadership claims simply because a scholarship values leadership.
Check document delivery, translations, file format and reference requirements carefully. Provide referees or employers with the correct templates where the scheme requires them. Keep final copies and verify that the files show the evidence clearly at ordinary reading size.

Submit, pay or evidence exemption, and inspect status
Finalise programme choices through the official system, then check supporting documents and the required fee or exemption evidence. Save the confirmation reference and inspect the application status after submission.
Complete any separate scholarship form by its own deadline. Monitor central and university messages for outstanding evidence or decisions. Keep admission, scholarship, waiting-list and acceptance statuses distinct so that a funding expectation is not confused with a confirmed place.

Compare admission and the award letter
Read the admitted programme, start date, conditions and the institution’s next steps. Compare the tuition invoice with any scholarship decision and establish whether living costs are funded. Ask about ambiguous payment or enrolment conditions before making commitments.
Build a practical budget for your city and the first months before regular support begins. Record academic progression and renewal requirements attached to the award. A scholarship for tuition only should never be presented in your own planning as a complete living-cost package.

Check the current residence rules before applying
Use the Migration Agency’s higher-education guidance for your nationality and study arrangement. Where tuition is payable, the agency’s process requires the relevant payment before residence assessment; coordinate the timing with the institution.
Read the current rules on financial evidence, study progress, permitted work and changes of status. Sweden introduced study-related changes in 2026, so older summaries may not describe your conditions. A scholarship offer does not guarantee residence permission. Seek appropriate professional advice when your individual situation needs legal interpretation.

Prepare for enrolment and your first semester
Confirm accommodation, orientation, registration and original-document requirements with the university. Keep official decisions accessible while travelling and check the local administrative steps that apply to your circumstances.
Record scholarship reporting and academic progress requirements. For a doctorate, arrange employment and research induction with the department; for a taught degree, check course registration and timetable instructions. Update contact details and ask the international office for help early when a practical issue could affect enrolment or your award.

Questions worth asking.
Are 15 January and 1 February the same deadline?
No. In the published first autumn 2027 round, the application/ranking deadline is separate from the supporting-document and fee deadline.
Does a university scholarship include living costs?
Not necessarily. Read the award components and budget for uncovered costs.
Do I apply for a Swedish PhD through the master’s system?
Doctoral opportunities normally use a university’s research recruitment or doctoral admission process. Follow the actual vacancy.
