Confirm what has actually been offered
Place the admission offer and scholarship letter side by side. Identify the course, start date, duration and any conditions. Make sure the award belongs to the same programme and intake. An invitation to apply for funding should not be treated as a funding decision.
Record the acceptance process and deadline for each document. The university and scholarship provider may need separate responses. Check whether accepting creates a financial commitment or affects other applications under the applicable rules.
Calculate the remaining cost
Use the current fee schedule and a realistic living-cost estimate. Subtract only the benefits confirmed in the award and check whether they are compatible with any other support. Include mandatory fees, insurance, deposits, travel and expenses before the first payment.
For a multi-year degree, review the whole funding period. A renewable scholarship may depend on grades, progress, enrolment status or a new application. Ask what happens if study is extended or interrupted. Do not turn a conditional renewal into a guaranteed multi-year budget.
Read responsibilities and restrictions
Check reporting, attendance, service, research, employment or return-related conditions where the award imposes them. Confirm whether a change of course, institution or study mode would affect funding. For an assistantship, understand the duties and contract as well as the academic offer.
Highlight terms you do not understand and ask the issuing office a precise question. Keep the written answer with the offer. Important conditions should not be resolved solely through an informal conversation with someone who does not administer the award.
Check deposits and cancellation terms
Before paying, identify the recipient, purpose, due date and refund conditions. University, accommodation, travel and consultancy payments can each have different policies. A refund rule for one service does not automatically apply to another.
Consider what would happen if an academic condition, visa or funding decision is delayed. Ask about deferral and late-arrival procedures rather than assuming they will be granted. Keep immigration permission separate from the academic and scholarship decisions.
Make the acceptance file
Save the final offer, award conditions, clarifications, acceptance confirmations and payment receipts in one secure folder. Add a checklist for remaining academic documents, immigration steps, housing and arrival tasks. Share sensitive records only with people who need them.
Your final decision should answer four questions: can I meet the conditions, can I afford the remaining cost, do I understand the obligations and can I complete the practical steps in time? A thoughtful acceptance protects the value of the opportunity you worked to obtain.
Provider instructions take precedence. A typical annual window is not a confirmed deadline for your intake.
